SITGES ENCOUNTERS IN CONVERSATION WITH ÁLEX DE LA IGLESIA

Activity description

Sitges Encounters encompasses the talk with large figures of gender cinema. Álex de la Iglesia will comment on his career as a Spanish director, producer and screenwriter.

Spanish director, producer and screenwriter. His short film Miradas asesinas (1991) caught the attention of Pedro Almodóvar, who produced his debut feature film, Acción Mutante (1993), redefined Spanish fantasy with an equal dose of pop culture and grotesqueness. Immediately afterwards, El día de la Bestia (1995) confirmed his talent, and earned him the Goya Award for best direction. In 2010, he won awards for best director and screenplay in Venice for Balada triste de trompeta. Between 2009 and 2011 he was president of the Spanish Film Academy. His recent film of this 2022, Venus, which opens this year’s festival, is part of The Fear Collection, horror label of Pokeepsie Films, the production company he directs together with Carolina Bang.

SITGES ENCOUNTERS IN CONVERSATION WITH NEIL MARSHALL

Activity description

Sitges Encounters encompasses the talk with large figures of gender cinema. Neill Marshall will comment on his career as film director.

Prolific genre filmmaker Neil Marshall will also be honored with a Time Machine Award. His career began over twenty years ago with Dog Soldiers, one of the most popular British horror films of all time, followed by the critically acclaimed blockbuster The Descent, which grossed over $50 million on a budget of just $3 million. Marshall is also one of the most sought-after directors in television today, having directed two of the most epic episodes of Game of Thrones, the pilots of Black Sails, Constantine and Timeless, and outstanding episodes of Hannibal and Westworld for J.J. Abrams. In 2018, he directed and produced the magnificent remake of Lost in Space for Netflix and in 2021 he released The Reckoning. Sitges 2022 will be premiering The Lair, a return to his origins about a female pilot who is forced to survive inside a bunker with hidden biological weapons.

Born 1947 in the USA, Robert Englund is an icon of horror films of the 80s and 90s, best known for playing the fictional serial killer Freddy Krueger, in The Nightmare on Elm Street film series. In 2007, he presented his film Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, a horror film in response to the B series of the 80s, and in the same year he received the honorary Time Machine Award at the Sitges Film Festival.

Activity description

Sitges Encounters encompasses the talk with large figures of gender cinema. Edgar Wright will comment on his career as director and screenwriter.

British director, producer and screenwriter Edgar Wright will be receiving the Time Machine Award at Sitges 2022. Wright first gained global recognition with his Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, consisting of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, made with actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, along with producer Nira Park. Wright also coscripted, produced and directed the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Together with Joe Cornish and Steven Moffat, he penned Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin (2011). He also wrote and directed the 2017 action crime film Baby Driver, which became a worldwide box office hit, and in 2021 he directed and co-wrote, along with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Last Night in Soho. That same year he also released his first documentary film, The Sparks Brothers.

Sitges Encounters encompasses the talk with large figures of gender cinema Ti West will comment on his career as american actor, editor, producer and film director.

 This year he will receive the Sitges Time Machine Award. Born in 1980 in the USA., he is a producer, screenwriter, editor, actor and film director. He is best known for his work in horror films, some of them are The House of the Devil (2009), The Innkeepers (2011), The Sacrament (2013) or the Western film In a Valley of Violence (2016) starring Ethan Hawke, Taissa Farmiga, and John Travolta. His latest hit was X (2022), an acclaimed film produced by the A24 company.

SITGES ENCOUNTERS IN CONVERSATION WITH MASAAKI YUASA

Activity description

Sitges Encounters encompasses the talk with large figures of gender cinema. Masaaki Yuasa will comment on his career as a fIlm and anime director, screenwriter and animator.

Masaaki Yuasa will also be honored with a Time Machine Award. With a degree in Fine Arts and trained in the world of storyboarding at the prestigious AJIADO animation studio, he directed his first anime feature film in 2004 with the highly acclaimed and groundbreaking Mind Game. Ten years after his official debut, he created his own company, Science Saru, where he gave free rein to his open and unbridled way of understanding animated films. Over the last five years he has delivered wonders like Lu Over the Wall (2017), Night Is Short, Walk On Girl (2017), Ride Your Wave (award winner at Sitges in 2019), and the surprising Inu-oh (2021).
